My last day as a Chako Volunteer

Shortly after Carol and I moved to Rancho Cordova 10 years ago, we started volunteering for Chako Pit Bull Rescue and Advocacy. First, we volunteered at the Sacramento County Animal shelter as Pit Bull University volunteers where we work with Pit Bull classified dogs on socialization and obedience skills to help them become more adoptable.

Then we became Adoption coordinators for Chako where we worked with people who were fostering dogs for Chako to help their foster dog to find the right home to be adopted into. As time went on, Chako had fewer fosters and didn't need us as adoption coordinators. However, I continued working with dogs at the shelters and captured lots of dog videos while the dogs were out of their kennels to show what great dogs they are!

We would also help out on occasion at Chako's Pit Smart obedience classes. With the COVID 19 Pandemic, most shelter operations were shut down but our Pit Smart Obedience classes continued on. After Carol and I separated, i started filling my Sunday mornings by going to the Chako Pit Smart obedience classes for some appropriately distanced socialization.

The two main instructors for the last number of years at the Pit Smart obedience classes have been Shannon Peirce and Paulette Sevier, two ladies I have worked with extensively over the years. I was honored that they asked me to come help out at the First class of 2021 for the basic obedience class. I was thrilled because since Charlie and Pirate are now with Carol, I get some doggie time at least once a week! :-) All of the students (the owners) were great and did amazing with their dogs, and the dogs were all rock stars in their own right! This class came to a conclusion just two weeks before I move to Yreka and it was the perfect culmination to get to see some old friends. Shannon's spouse Rick came by one day to say good bye before I left which was truly special because though we politically don't see eye to eye, we have more respect for one another than anyone could imagine.

Here is a video of my last day volunteering at the Chako Pit Smart Obedience class!

Thank you everyone involved with Chako, I will never forget you.

Safe Travels!
